Question
Hi. I am 42yrs old, weigh 195 pounds and have hypertension. I was prescribed Lisinopril 20mgs. That brought my BP down, but I hated taking the pills because of the side effects, so I stopped and my blood pressure (predictably) went back up. I did some research and am now on an all-raw diet (mainly green smoothies). I have also started taking the meds again. I am hoping that the change of diet will allow me to lose weight and just generally be healthier so that I can eventually stop taking the meds. Do you have an herbal suggestions (teas, tinctures, etc.) that you suggest I take? (I am taking hawthorn 2x a day). Thank you.
Answer
Hi Mary,
I would take Calcium - 1,500 mg daily.
and Magnesium 750 mg daily. - Deficiencies have been linked to high blood pressure.
Garlic - 2 capsules 3 times daily. - Effective in lowering blood pressure.
Coenzyme Q10 - 100 mg daily. - Improves heart function and lowers blood pressure.
Essential fatty acids - Flaxseed oil. - As directed on label. Take before meals. - Important for circulation and lowering blood pressure.
Use Cayenne, Fennel, Hawthorne berries, Parsley, and Rosemary for high blood pressure.
Follow a strict salt-free diet.
Eat a high fiber diet.
Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
The raw diet is excellent. Keep it up. This should help you lose weight and lower blood pressure.
Best wishes,
Dennis
