Dogs coughing

Question
My Dog has been coughing for about 9 months now.

X-rays showed white tissue around lung slightly larger at top of lung.  She was put on anti-flamitories, anti-biotics and very small cough pills which helped only if she remained on it. I was told that the swab taken from the lung after this had lots of good  samples for testing but came back as no more that what would be a chronic bronchitis or allergy.  Now they want to put her on a steroid.

My Jack Russell is coming 17 and in good shape other that her bad cough which is dragging her down.  I am wondering if it would help her if I sprinkled this mixture of mullein, uva ursi and coltsfoot on her food in the crushed leaf form.

I have been into herbs for years and tried comfrey leaves and pro vex (a grape seed mix)but this has not stopped the cough either.

I even give her Goji juice in her food.

Thank you for your time.

Answer
Morning Liz,

Sure, I would give this a try, Mullein and Coltsfoot are especially good treatments for chronic coughs.

Several chemicals in Ginger (ginerols and shogaols) have been shown in studies using laboratory animals to have cough-suppressing, pain-relieving and fever-reducing action. You might also add this to your formula.

Licorice, Slippery Elm, Anise, and Primrose leaves are good choices.

I would try these treatments before the lingering side-effects of steroids.

Best wishes,

Dennis
