homemade remedies

Question
From the age of 17-25 I was on 5 different prescription drugs for anxiety, depression, ADD, and other problems.  I hated it, and so when I made a big positive change in my life, I decided to stop taking my medications.  Everything was great for about a year and a half, but gradually I started to feel all of the symptoms all over again.  I don't want to go back to the prescriptions, so I started doing a lot of research on different herbs that could help me.  I would like to create my own herbal remedies, but I don't know how much of each herb I should use each day.  I also don't know if there are any herbs that don't go well together and could be harmful if I combine them.  Is there anywhere that I can find a basic dosage chart or something that would give me this info.  Thanks!

Answer
Hi Leah,

NERVINES

Valerian is a favorite of mine. It is gently stimulating, yet has a calming effect on the nervous system. Because it is very potent, start off with a small daily dosage. I would start with 1 ?OO? capsule 3 times a day. You may increase to 3 ?OO? capsules.

You may want to stay at a lower dosage if you are under 130 pounds.

Skullcap, Catnip, and Passionflower are all good herbs for the central nervous system. Mix and match a drink a daily cup of tea. Use one teaspoon in cap, add boiling water and let set for 5 minutes.

TRANQUILATION THERAPY TEA

TO MAKE TEA---1/4 teaspoon SKULLCAP  -  cut and sifted

?  teaspoon CATNIP  -  cut and sifted

?  teaspoon  SPEARMINT -  cut and sifted

?  teaspoon   capsule of powdered of Powdered Valerian Root.

Pour 1 cup Boiling Water over this blend, stir and let sit for 5 minutes. This is quite potent and you can take it to bed with you and sip while reading a good book. It may take up to 30 minutes to have the desired effect, with some people it effects immediately. Drink it slowly. A little honey can be added if you don't like the taste.

Another good capsule to make is making a powder of Passionflower mixed with Skullcap. Use 1 part Skullcap to 2 parts Passionflower. You may take up to 3 caps a day.

A good place to purchase herbs, capsules, and a ?Kwick Cap? machine is at www.herbalhealer.com.

They will also send you an herb chart. The website will have their phone number if you have any questions.

Best wishes,

Dennis
