Kelp

Question
Hi

I am 55.Is this herb at all beneficial? I have a slow metabolism and find it difficult to lose any weight in spite of diet and exercise.

My doctor tested my thyroid and he said it was in normal range, but 'some people just have slower metabolisms'.

Kelp is supposed to increase metabolism and benefit skin and hair.

I am always cold, my skin is always dry, and my hair is also frizzy and dry.

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Bud,

How's the weather up there?

Kelp is a rich source of vitamins, especially the B vitamins, as well as many valuable minerals and trace elements. It is reported to be beneficial to brain tissue, the membranes surrounding the brain, the sensory nerves, and the spinal cord, as well as the nails, and blood vessels.

It has been used in the treatment of thyroid problems because of the iodine content, and is useful for other conditions as varied as hair loss, obesity, and ulcers. It protects against the effects of radiation and softens stools.

Burdock root and Red clover cleanse the bloodstream.

Garlic helps the immune system and protects the heart.

Ginseng and Gingko biloba extract are good for giving extra energy, and increasing circulation.

Milk thistle promotes good liver function.

Nettle is full of vital minerals, which we have in diminishing amounts as we get older.

This should help perk you up, Bud.

Best wishes,

Dennis
