Question
Hi there,
How do you meditate? I can seem to calm my anxious mind?
Answer
Hello Joanna,
Thank you for your question. That is a common challenge we all have. There are several techniques to work with in order to "quiet" the mind. One of those techniques is to give into the noise allowing the mind to conjure up anything and everything. With this technique though, the key is not to hold onto any of the images or thoughts. Simply let them float by. Once you attach your likes or dislikes to the images, the mind captures your attention and you find yourself being invested in the images. The investments are what cause tension and unrest. Another technique which I have found to be the most beneficial is to focus on the breath. Breathe in a steady flow bringing your conscious attention to each inhale and exhale. When you find your mind wandering bring your attention back again to your breath. As you do this you should notice less thoughts arising and a greater relaxation in the body emerging. I hope you have found this information helpful. I wish you all the best in your meditative practices. Be well.
