Pueraria Mirifica

Question
Hello Dennis,

I am a patient suffering from hypothyroid. My levels are stable with medication. I was wondering if I could use pueraria mirifica? Is it safe or will it interfere with my hypothyroid?

I also suffer from hair loss which I know is common with hypothyroid patients but is there any cure?

Thanks and best regards

Liza

Answer
Hi Liza,

Pueraria Mirifica has phytoestrogens that could have a contraindication  with the medication that your taking for your condition.  It could elevate the effect of the medications. I would not use it.

Seeing as your medications are controlling your hypothyroidism, we won't address this.

Yes. Sorry to say, hair loss is a side effect of thyroid disease. Your diet may help you the most.

Essential fatty acid ? As directed on label. - Improves hair texture. Prevents dry, brittle hair.

Vitamin B complex ? 100 mg 3 times daily. B vitamins are important for the health and growth of hair.

Use apple cider vinegar and sage tea rinse to help hair grow.

Eat plenty of foods high in biotin and/or take supplemental biotin using 50 mg 3 times daily. Deficiencies have been linked to hair loss. Good food sources of biotin include brewer's yeast, brown rice, bulgur, green peas, lentils, oats, soybeans, sunflower seeds, and walnuts.

Best wishes,

Dennis
