Sputum

Question

Answer
Hello Sam,

Thank you for your question. Your symptoms sound to me to be of one acupuncturists call Spleen Qi deficiency with phlegm accumulation. This condition is one that can be reversed. There are several guidelines I would ask that you consider. First is a change in your diet. Initially, start with a 3-7 day cleanse. The cleanse should include easy to digest foods such as rice, oats, walnuts, quinao, strawberries, bananas, apples with plenty of fluids. I would not recommend during this time eating meats as they are very difficult for the body to digest and can further tax the Spleen.

During the cleansing period and post cleanse, I would suggest you consider removing refined sugars and wheat based products from your diet. Both can actuate your symptoms. I would also recommend removing alcohol, raw uncooked foods, and seafood. Next I would ask that you introduce daikon, yams and squash alternating each at least once per day. Daikon is good for transforming phlegm. You can also introduce soups such as scallions with lemon in warm water. The soup doesn't appeal to most but it can reduce the symptoms of dizziness. No more than 1 cup per day should be drank. You may also consider visiting a local acupuncturist who has a strong foundation in herbal medicine. There are several formulas which could very beneficial for you. I am hesitant to provide those formulas as I do not have a complete picture of your symptomology. Should you notice any increases in your symptoms based on my recommendations discontinue them as there are other factors that are contributing to your symptoms. Please let me know if you have additional questions. I do wish you well.
