What can valerian root be mixed with/not mixed with?

Question
Hi,

I am a 22 year old female, who is trying to take a natural approach to mild anxiety, and gaining a healthy stance on my immune system.

I have been taking daily: B12 - (500mg) DHEA - (25mg)

I have also been taking an iron suppliment every other day (I am anemic and also do not have a spleen) 65mg.

I have read reviews on valerian root as a natural approach to relax your body for a more peaceful sleep. I have not been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, but tend to find some nights waking up in the middle of a panic attack. I was recently hospitalized with a heart rate above 140, and trouble breathing. they tested my heart on everything, and everything came back completely normal, so they said I might just have some anxiety issues.

I bought some valerian root the other day and took 1 capsule last nighht (400mg) and had a wonderful nights sleep.

Can I take all of the above in oone day?? I am not sure if i can mix those daily vitamins and a valerian root together...I have tried researching, but have yet to come up with anything. plus, if there is any other herbs you would recommend that might help, please let me know. Thank you!

Answer
Hi Alllison,

Yes, you can take all of the above in one day. I would use a B-complex vitamin instead of the B-12.

I would also suggest 1,000 mg of calcium and 600 mg of magnesium daily. They are natural tranquilizers.

I would use Milk Thistle (500 mg) daily to neutralize free radicals which increase under stress.

Rotate the Valerian root with Skullcap every 30 days. Take before bedtime.

Other herbs to help you relax and can be taken during day as a cup of tea are Catnip, Linden Flower, Motherwort, and Passion Flower.

Happy to hear you slept so well after just one night of taking Valerian root.

Best wishes,

Dennis
